The world is moving towards efficient technology and countries like the UAE are at the forefront of deploying it. While several noteworthy projects are undergoing in Dubai, initiatives like the Hatta Solar Project certainly enjoys due hype. Hatta is a small exclave in the UAE known for its natural beauty. This place was chosen for the development of an approximately USD300M project. The purpose of this project was simple — to enhance the natural beauty of this place and to make it a first-class tourism destination.

The authorities wanted to make this zone efficient in energy consumption. One of the region’s leading energy solutions company — Etihad Energy Services (Etihad ESCO) — was tasked with developing solar rooftops that would power Hatta’s residing services, which led to the creation of the Hatta Solar Project. This project was also a part of Dubai’s long-term plan of cutting down 30 per cent of its energy costs by the end of the next decade. The Hatta Solar Project was completed last year in 2018 by retrofitting over 554 villas with over 7500 PV solar panels, which are expected to churn up numbers over 3,500,000KWh annually. As an augmented benefit, these Hatta Villas will also be contributing to the region by having approximately 2,100 tons of drop in CO2 emissions. This entire project was sponsored by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) under which Etihad ESCO operates.

To complete this project, Etihad ESCO partnered with Al Mustajed General Contracting, Alsa Solar, and Dubai Carbon Center of Excellence for the construction and maintenance of the project. The company has been serving the energy sector of the GCC region for the past six years. Owing to its unprecedented performance and the successful completion of the Hatta Solar Project, it has set out to drastically reduce the energy consumption in this region by 2030. By this time, the company plans on retrofitting solar panels in the area. The company is on track to achieving its goal of reducing 20% energy demand by 2020.

The core function of the company is to implement energy conservation measures to save energy. Etihad ESCO audits and proposes customized energy conservation measures based on its experience . Etihad ESCO can also finance Energy project upto 100%. Etihad ESCO is on a mission to retrofit lighting and water fixtures and energy-saving systems in the UAE.

Etihad Energy services has been thriving under DEWA. The company looks towards continuing building such projects and at the pace that it has been moving forward, it will be reaching its targets before 2030. The company further wants to make sure that CO2 emissions in Dubai are reduced by 1 million in the same year. Once this project reaches its conclusion, Dubai will become a region where most houses are energy efficient with its own solar power.
