Reputation damage can occur as a consequence of many things which we do not even see coming. It could be a public relation disaster, wrong accusation, lawsuit, or any piece of controversy that maligns your reputation. In this regard, a person is required to take control of a lot of things since a spiraling reputation would not just be it; it would lead to many more consequential problems.

Your business would be down just because your reputation is tarnishing. Your customers and followers may question your authority and influence because they are being enticed by all the noise out there that is constantly spewing negative things about you. Meanwhile, certain people, companies, and customers would not be willing to associate their names with you since it looks terrible on them to partner with someone who no longer has a good name.

Dwight York, a singer, songwriter, religious scholar, and an author has faced a similar problem. He was wrongly accused of heinous crimes for which he is serving prison time for up to 135 years in federal prison. Dr. York who grew into tremendous power amassing strong influencers at his back was accused of a number of things. He is said to have been involved in cases of human trafficking, and child molestation during his reign.

However, many people who testified against him later revealed that they were forced to do so. It entails a big question mark on the credibility of the US Department of Justice because Dr. York is now facing life-long imprisonment for crimes he did not commit.

For people who wish to take control back in their hands and do something about their broken reputation, here are some thoughts:

PR and marketing — If the wrong Public Relations move led to one’s decline, then it should be noticed that the same thing would be required to rectify the sort of damage. Massive campaigns and marketing strategies need to be worked on in order to change the prevailing beliefs in the minds of people. These would work in a way that if something is being constantly pitched in your favor, it would compel people to think twice about what they have been popularly believing for a long time. If real facts and thought-provoking words are being circulated everywhere, it will force a person to raise questions.

Involve supporters — Get your supporters involved in undoing the damage that has been done. They would be able to reach out to the community in a more efficient way. As more people begin to speak in your favor and discuss matters, there is a good chance that others would come to believe them as well.
