When Peabo J decided to create his record, he was well aware of the hardships he would have to face. There are certain tips and tricks that go into making a hit album.

Though his mother, a single parent, raised him, he still had his father’s natural talent for music and singing. Dancing and singing to the beat came easily to Peabo J. He started singing at the age of 2 and was already becoming brilliant at it until he discovered “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. It is here that he found that he had a buried passion for dancing as well. His parents got him piano lessons as a gift for his 7th birthday, and a guitar for his 14th. He pursued music as he grew up, playing in a high school band and working with local producers as well. He also worked on an album with Redgalaxy Records but left due to creative differences soon after. After his two hit singles “Freak 4 U” and “Party the Night Away,” his popularity peaked and he was able to sign on with idmd/Universal Music group.

As the saying goes in the music industry, you have a lifetime to make your first record and a year to make your second. This means that you will pour your entire life experience in making your first experience and then you can follow up with the second one, quickly so that no one forgets you.

Here are some tips that will help you make your first record:

Playing to a click

A lot producers will recommend that you do this while tracking. You will struggle, get frustrated, and ruin your performance if you are not used to playing along to the click track. This is also true for your drummer. Some people tend to argue that the method of playing to the click eradicates the feel of the song. Usually, people making these arguments are those specializing in drumming who are not used to doing it. However, it is best that you give this tip a try. It will take some practice, but surely you will manage to play with the click and carry the feel of the song along.

Make sure to master your tunes

You will have to practice the tunes you are playing with before you get to recording them. Unless you are a successful band like Coldplay, who has the good fortune to write songs in a recording studio you will have to rehearse your songs a lot before recording them. Do not wait to alter the music in the studio if you feel it does not feel right. You will have to keep track of the time and money that you are putting at risk here.

Commit to your artistic vision

Diplomacy and kindness are two of the rules you will have to follow inside the studio, but you will have to stick to your guns when it comes to someone trying to “fix” the vision you have with your songs. You will have to be stubborn to make the right decision for your track and cannot compromise on it just to appease the other person.
